Urban climate revelatory visualizations

The newly defined concept ‘climate revelatory visualisations’ tackles perceptual barriers of experiencing climate processes. In a research-through-designing process, multiple visualisations are tested on the criteria 'engagement, clarity, connectivity and trust'. The visualisations are embedded in the context of a dense historic labourer’s neighbourhood (Assendorp, Zwolle), since common urban heat problems such as heat stress on hot summer days and water accumulation during peak rainfall occur here. The research findings show that the climate risks and adaptation measures can be effectively presented in photorealistic and animated imagery, supported by graphic information. The combination of before- after imagery with the above mentioned ingredients can tackle multiple perceptual barriers, and therewith trigger significant steps in the awareness level amongst urban inhabitants.
