Climate analysis and adaptation study for Tiel

Climate analysis and adaptation study for Tiel

2011 – 2012, funded by Tiel municipality and EU North West Europe Interreg ‘Future cities’, project leaders: Annemieke Spit, Sanda Lenzholzer

Tiel municipality struggled with various climate related problems such as seepage water and proneness to river flooding. Tiel was interested in combining adaptation measures and concurrently addressing urban climate issues. Therefore Sanda Lenzholzer and a group of 10 MSc students conducted an urban climate analysis of the city based on the climatope concept and provided a recommendation map for types and sites of adaptation measures. For locations with specific problems or potentials the students developed individual integrated design solutions addressing urban climate adaptation together with other issues. The results were received enthusiastically by the municipality, citizens and the mayor of Tiel.
