Climate proof community garden Sint Martens Hof
2013 – 2014, funded by ‘WUR wetenschapswinkel’, project leader: Bram ten Cate, team members: Sanda Lenzholzer, Femke Visser
The Sint Martens Hof community consists of 20 families of a co-housing project who renovated and rebuilt an urban block in the Sint Marten neighbourhood in Arnhem. They asked us provide ideas for their partly shared community garden that make the garden ‘climate proof’ and sustainable. With a group of 16 BSc thesis students we organized a range of co- design workshops with the inhabitants and their children. Based on the results of these workshops all students generated individual design proposals that were assessed by the community. The essence of the assessments was then weighted by the community to form the basis for a concrete preliminary design sketched by Sanda Lenzholzer. The Sint Martens Hof community garden has been finished by Marijn van der Linden in April 2015 according to the design sketch and is in use since then by the community. Adults and children are very content with the layout of the garden and use it intensively.
